What is Spiritual Direction?

A spiritual director is a trained listener who helps individuals notice and pay attention to the ways God is present in all aspects of life. In spiritual direction, individuals receive guidance in discerning the movement of the Spirit within them and how to respond faithfully. Spiritual direction provides a safe and non-judgmental space for honest conversation, helping individuals move toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their areas of growth, ultimately leading to a more integrated and whole life with God and others.

The health of a church or ministry is closely tied to the health of its leaders. We know Jesus as our Good Shepherd, the one who cares deeply for our souls, and we love the soul of this Shepherd. Yet, many of us in ministry have wandered in the wilderness, doubted the way, or run too fast for too long without rest. We’ve felt the light dim in our eyes, unsure of how to ask for help. Even the shepherd needs a shepherd—someone safe and confidential, who listens with empathy, understands the journey, and helps us pay attention to God’s presence in every season.
